The CSX Blue Ridge Subdivision, the old Clinchfield line south of Erwin is now reopen after the extensive damage from Hurricane Helene. Seaboard Air Line Railroad – Clinchfield Connection
The Seaboard Air Line (SAL) and the Clinchfield connected at Bostic NC. In the planning days of the railroad as the Clinchfield was being built, the exchange of traffic with the Seaboard was key to CRR’s business planning. The investment company that was funding the Clinchfield, Blair & Company, was also a primary investor in the Seaboard. There were even rumors that Seaboard might buy or merge with the Clinchfield around 1910.
For many years, the Clinchfield was prosperous due to the connection at Bostic with the Seaboard, and also with the ACL in Spartanburg SC. In the 1960s, the ACL and SAL merged to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad.
